What Are Fixed Braces?

Fixed braces use small metal or ceramic brackets that are gently fixed to the front of your teeth. A thin wire runs through the brackets and is held in place with small elastic bands. Over a series of appointments, the wire is adjusted so your teeth gradually move into the planned position.

What is the Process of Fixed Braces?

1.

Initial Consultation

First, Jonty will discuss what you want to achieve, assess your teeth and bite, and talk through the best options for your smile.

2.

Measurements & X-ray

Next, Jonty will take the necessary measurements, assess your bite and jaw, and take X-rays. This helps us build a clear treatment plan before you start.

3.

Fitting Your Braces

Brackets will be painlessly bonded to your teeth, and a wire attached. We’ll then talk you through what to expect in the first few days and give you clear oral health instructions on how to look after your teeth and braces.

4.

Progress Checks

You’ll be seen at regular intervals to make sure everything is moving as planned. Jonty will replace the wires as you progress, and if needed, may advise the use of small elastics to help guide your bite.

5.

Treatment Complete

Once you and Jonty are both happy with the final result, and your braces are removed, we’ll put a long-term retention plan in place. This usually includes a night-time retainer to maintain your new smile.
