What is an Anti-Snoring Device?

An anti-snoring device is a small, custom-made mouthpiece you wear while you sleep. It fits over your teeth and gently holds your lower jaw a little forward. That forward position helps keep the airway more open, which can reduce the vibration in the throat that causes snoring.

Jonty provides bespoke mandibular advancement appliances following a full dental assessment and, where appropriate, in collaboration with your GP or sleep doctors. Appliances are individually prescribed and fitted based on clinical suitability.

These appliances are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or first-line treatment of sleep apnoea, which is typically led through NHS or specialist medical services. Patients with suspected or confirmed sleep apnoea should always undergo appropriate medical assessment before dental appliance therapy is considered.

The Benefits of Using an Anti-Snoring Device

  • Custom-made for your mouth so it’s secure, comfortable, and not bulky

  • Extensive suitability checks, including teeth, gums, and jaw joint assessment, before you commit.

  • Targets the cause of snoring by gently bringing the lower jaw forwards to help keep the airway open

  • Ongoing support and fine-tuning so it can be adjusted as your bite and comfort settle

What is the Anti-Snoring Device?

1.

Initial Consultation

First, Jonty will talk through what’s happening with your snoring and when it is at its worst. Then he’ll carry out a full check of your teeth, gums, bite and jaw joints to confirm an anti-snoring device is suitable for you.

2.

Scan & Bite Record

Next, a digital scan of your teeth will be taken, along with a bite record. This allows your appliance to be made to fit you correctly and to maintain the correct jaw position.

3.

Anti-Snoring Device Fit

When your device is ready, Jonty will fit it and make sure it feels secure and comfortable. He’ll show you how to put it in and take it out, how to clean it properly, and what to expect during the first couple of nights.

4.

Ongoing Reviews

Jonty will review how you are getting on and fine-tune the appliance if needed. Small adjustments can make a big difference, both for comfort and for reducing snoring effectively.
